Supporting high quality sustainable growth in England

Environmental Standards

English Partnerships is fully committed to the Government’s Sustainable Development Strategy published by Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) in 2006 and Communities and Local Government's (CLG) Building a Greener Future

Quality Standards

We have adopted the Code for Sustainable Homes Level 3 as a base standard in our new Quality Standards.

Our Quality Standards also restrict use of environmentally damaging building and construction processes as specified in the BRE Green Guide to Building Specifications and by the Civil Engineering Environmental Quality and Assessment Scheme (CEEQUAL).

We have also introduced measures to prevent the overheating of well-insulated homes in the summer months with a new Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) standard.

Applying the standards

Under the Carbon Challenge we are helping developers gear-up to the 2016 target when all new homes will have to be zero carbon. We are making available a number of development sites around the country at Level 6 (zero carbon) of the Code for Sustainable Homes.

In tackling the increasing problem of flood risk, English Partnerships has been a pioneer in the use of Sustainable Urban Drainage schemes, such as those on our sites in Upton and elsewhere in Northampton.

Research

English Parnterships' research programme has also been very active in promoting good practice in the use of environmental technologies through our sponsorship of Contaminated Land: Applications in Real Environments (CL:AIRE) and research into the use of Energy Services Companies.
