Supporting high quality sustainable growth in England

Land Supply

Increasing land supply to help deliver the aspirations of the Government’s Housing Green Paper and minimise greenfield development is a key focus for English Partnerships.

Through our National Brownfield Strategy and National Coalfields Programme we help to unlock and turn around some of the country’s most difficult sites, tackling visual and economic blight, improving the environment and freeing up land for both development and for leisure.

Speeding up delivery

Making better use of surplus public sector land is creating another much-needed supply line for new development, speeding up the delivery of new quality homes.

A co-ordinated approach across government agencies is resulting in more effective use of land. For example, our portfolio of 96 hospital sites purchased in 2005 from NHS Estates, is expected to deliver 14,000 homes and attract more than £1bn in private sector investment by 2010.

We also administer the Register of Surplus Public Sector Land, a single reference point for public sector agencies on the available supply of land nationally.

Working with local authorities

Our pilot Local Housing Companies programme seeks to match local authority land with private sector expertise and finance through the creation of local delivery vehicles to help bring more land forward at a local level.

The advice given by our Advisory Team for Large Applications (ATLAS) helps steer Local Authorities, other public sector bodies and private stakeholders through the town planning process, unlocking and delivering complex or strategic development projects.
