Hemel Hempstead was designated as a New Town on 4 February 1947. Located at the edge of the Chiltern Hills, the town has an area of 2,391 ha (5,910 acres).

 

Travel and transport

Hemel Hempstead is located 25m north-west of London, close to the M1 and M25 London Orbital motorway. It offers excellent road links for distribution and good access to airports and ports.

 

Employment

The town has many contrasting types of employment including light engineering, computer peripherals, software engineering and warehousing / distribution. Major local employers include Kodak, BP Oil, British Telecom and DuPont.

 

Population

Hemel Hempstead boasts a population of 83,000.

 

Current Projects  

English Partnerships is currently involved in the following projects in and around Hemel Hempstead:

  • Maylands

    English Partnerships is working with the Maylands Partnership - a mixture of private and public sector partners working to deliver a high quality employment park close to the M1.

  • Town Centre

    Working alongside Dacorum Borough Council, English Partnerships is involved with the regeneration of the town centre.

  • Spencer’s Park 

    Working with Dacorum Borough Council and Crown Estates, English Partnerships is involved in a project aiming to develop an area of the town with zero carbon housing.
