Background

Edge Lane, the key eastern gateway into Liverpool, is being transformed into a high quality urban boulevard and vastly improved housing environment with new commercial and retail opportunities; demonstrating the aspirations and status of Liverpool as a major European city

The £350m project includes the creation of more than 1,000,000 sq ft of new and refurbished commercial, retail floorspace and community facilities, the construction and refurbishment of about 2,000 homes, the creation and safeguarding of almost 1,200 jobs, the widening of the road to remove bottlenecks, and the planting of more than 100 trees. It is an exemplar of the competence, skill and regeneration experience needed for a complex and multifaceted project.

Current status

English Partnerships is using its compulsory purchase powers to acquire the land needed for the western part of the Edge Lane Project. The Project marks a vital area of economic growth for the city.

  • Compulsory purchase (CPO) public inquiry begins – early 2008
  • CPO decision anticipated – summer 2008
