Coldeast Hospital, Hampshire
The former Coldeast Hospital site totals 46 ha of land in a predominantly residential area. Part of the site, known as Lot 1 an area of 9.7 ha has planning consent for 150 new homes. English Partnerships has plans for around 25 per cent of these to be available as affordable homes to buy or rent. Further homes may be available for first time buyers via a shared equity scheme.
A number of derelict hospital buildings on the site are set to be demolished. However, English Partnerships will be ensuring the preservation of locally listed buildings such as:
- the stable block
- dairy cottage
- cart shed
- the pillars at the two main gateways to the site.
In addition, the community hall currently used by the local scouting group will be refurbished and transferred to Fareham Borough Council.
Site Developer
Miller Homes were appointed developers for the site, which has been renamed Admirals Wood, after Lord Admiral Hood who bequeathed his residence as a hospital to ensure ongoing treatment for his daughter.
The remaining part of the site, known as Lot 2, does not have planning permission. English Partnerships and Miller Homes are currently in discussions with Fareham Borough Council to explore the future for this part of the site, including the woodland areas and the refurbishment of The Mansion House.
Next step
Work on site is due to start during 2008 with infrastructure works commencing to provide access to the site.
