Countess of Chester Hospital, Chester
Background
Surplus land of 14 ha at the Countess of Chester Hospital site in Chester is to be transformed as part of English Partnerships Hospital Sites Programme.
English Partnerships is working with Cheshire and Wirral Partnership NHS Trust and Cheshire West Primary Care Trust to create one of the most environmentally friendly sustainable neighbourhoods in the Chester area.

There will be up to 200 new homes, 80 of which will be affordable and offered in the first instance to key workers, cascading from those working in healthcare. The development will also provide commercial and office space, a community centre, and landscaping/public open space, including play areas for children.
As well as contributing to local housing, employment and leisure needs, the development will encourage energy-efficient, environmentally responsible construction.
